on

The GolfWRX forums exist so golfers have access to the latest equipment releases, hottest discussions, real equipment reviews, best instruction, new technologies and everything golf you can imagine.

So if you love golf, the GolfWRX forums are your sanctuary.

In the From the Forums weekly feature, we bring you the hottest, most buzz-worthy topics from our forums for your convenience. I’ll be your trusty tour guide to navigate the latest buzz.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain into golf’s sanctuary.

The most beautiful irons?

SpeedyPo writes:

“I am drooling on Mizuno MP-100 irons not to use them to lower my scores but to enjoy them from time to time while amused by their look. Simply beautiful irons.

“Do you have irons that make you smile by just looking at them?”

It’s a great question, as aesthetics are a big reason why we get so excited about golf equipment (performance-related enthusiasm comes, obviously, after hitting a club).

Ben Hogan once said, “a golf club is like a piece of fine jewelry.”

See what “jewelry” has WRXers tongues wagging.

Hot takes on Jordan Spieth’s NTO opening round 79

JordanSpiethSlowPLay-640x407

The sky is falling! Opinions were everywhere following Jordan Spieth’s opening-round, 8-over par 70 at Riviera yesterday. And while “it was just a bad day” is more than adequate explanation, WRXers, technically minded as they are, dug a little deeper.

Most of the takes are on the spectrum between “it was an off day” to “if he’s not putting and scrambling incredibly, he’s an average player.”

Get in on the discussion.

Further Brandel/Rory fitness talk

BrandelChambleeDebates

We ran a front-page piece the other day about Brandel Chamblee’s suggestions that Rory McIlroy may be off-base with his golf fitness.

A similar discussion cropped up in the forums, and it presently has 127 comments in just two days. It’s a hot discussion, and a good example of what WRXers are all about: Getting to the heart of issues in golf, whether it’s fitness or whether a club stands up to its billing and manufacturer’s claims.

Check out the thread.

Bernhard Langer’s new putting stroke

When the USGA’s anchoring ban went into effect/was adopted by professional golf tours, one of the questions golf fans were asking was, “How will those whose success is tied to the anchored putter fare?”

One of the most dominant anchorers on any tour, Bernhard Langer, completed a statement victory at the Chubb Classic. The win was his first without anchoring the putter. Langer has interestingly decided to continue using the long putter but isn’t pressing it to his body.

On the heels of much debate surrounding what the Champions Tour’s best player would do, the decision, and the result, were of no small interest to the WRX readership.

See what they had to say.

You need to shop around before you buy that set of Miura irons, they are well under 2 grand. I just saw a new set of limited black iron heads that are very high but the rest are not that high. Or even better buy a used set for a better price. The M675, if that looks good to you,, ok but the Jack Nicklaus VIP’s were the best looking Irons by that company. For a good question, what are the owners of that company doing with one of the greatest brands ever made.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Phil Mickelson’s sunglasses

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been getting to the bottom of Phil Mickelson’s new look on tour. WRXers have been speculating on the brand of the sunglasses as well as commenting on Lefty’s new jogger pants he donned at the Travelers Championship.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • bulls9999: “Hah, I just posted to my Phil Mickelson forum that ‘the first time I’ve noticed Phil wearing glasses while playing’… reflective aviator style? I like the look; but I often get eye strain out in the bright sun and would often wear sunglasses between shots, just can’t wear them playing a shot.”
  • nobody_important: “I hate that I know this, but looking at the hinge they are Mykita. Not sure which frame but that’s where I would put my money.”
  • raheelc: “Yep, looking at the hinges, they definitely look like they are Mykita sunglasses. Hard to tell exactly which model, but to me, seems like they are the Mykita Caleb, $545.”
  • drn92: “Forget about the sunglasses … what about the joggers he is wearing?”

What GolfWRXers are saying about ‘hitting it 300+ yards using a stiff shaft’

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing the use of a stiff shaft and whether it can provide both distance and accuracy. WRXer ‘ebibler’ kicks off the thread with this problem:

“I’ve been getting up to the tee lately and haven’t the slightest clue where my next drive is going. I have always played an X flex with a nice tight draw, but this year I seem to be hanging shots to the right(probably my hands or my swing but…….lol)

I currently play an F9 with the Atmos in X, it hits bombs, but they are useless unless I can control them. I’m normally around 3 Bills off the tee, any chance a Stiff flex would help? My town has zero options for fitting, so I come to you guys for help!”

And our members have been getting involved in the discussion with lots of advice offered up in our forums.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Jc0: “Consider a heavier weight if you are having control issues. Stiffer and heavier usually help with control.”
  • mcounci2: “Not me, but one of the guys in our regular foursome has an incredibly smooth swing and is about 310-330 with a stock stiff hzrdus smoke black TS3.”
  • Leftlove94: “If I get into one I can hit it 300+. Not as frequently as I used too, which is why I’m hitting a Stiff shaft now. Had one drive last week at 305 but it was a touch downhill. Average drive was about 275-280 w/ 5 yards of fade. A draw adds 5-10 for me.”
  • Booker: “One of my playing partners hits a 910 d3 with the stock made for 72s ahina. Plays to a three handicap Doesn’t care about shaft flexes or weight, just kills it—174mph ball speed with this thing. Also still plays a vsteel spoon with a 75g NV, no problem carrying the spoon 265. Going on ten years with that driver and 22years with the spoon.”

What GolfWRXers are saying about Jason Dufner’s Axis 1 putter at this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic

Published

on

In our forums, the spotlight has been shone on Jason Dufner’s Axis 1 putter from this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. Dufner has lost strokes at both events with his flat-stick since the PGA Tour’s restart, and it looks as if he is trying to find his groove on the greens in Detroit with the Axis 1. Our members have been having their say on the switch.

For lots more photos, check out the entire thread.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Weezer2: “He’s searching far and wide. I hope he finds it.”
  • nova6868: “I don’t know Justin Rose has had it in the bag for a long time now, and he was doing pretty well.”
  • pga43: “Luke List won a couple of weeks ago on the Korn Ferry Tour with an Axis 1.”
