Published

on

GolfWRX is live from the Northern Trust Open in Pacific Palisades, California from one of the PGA Tour’s most historic venues, Riviera Country Club.

Riviera, or “Riv” for short, has a history of exciting finishes. Anticipation of a great event is even higher this year to due to a star-studded field that for the first time includes Rory McIlroy. World No. 1 Jordan Spieth, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Dustin Joshnson, Paul Casey, Adam Scott, Gary Woodland and Bubba Watson are also in the field, along with last year’s winner James Hahn. A year ago, Hahn beat D. Johnson and Casey in a sudden-death playoff to earn his first PGA Tour victory.

Other notables include 2016 PGA Tour winners Jason Dufner, Fabian Gomez, Hideki Matsuyama, and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner Vaughn Taylor.

On Monday at Rvieria, however, the spotlight was on amateurs, not the pros. For the second year, the Northern Trust Open held its Collegiate Showcase, in which 14 top college players competed for a spot in the field. In addition, two university alumni was paired with a PGA Tour professional as they competed for a $50,000 donation to their university.

The college players competing were Arizona’s Kolton Lapa (playing with Ricky Barnes), Arizona State’s Max Rotluff (playing with Paul Casey), Baylor’s Nick Thornton (playing with Jimmy Walker) Georgia’s Lee McCoy (playing with Hudson Swafford) Illinois’ Charlie Danielson (playing with Scott Langley), Kentucky’s Chip McDaniel (playing with J.B. Holmes) Northwestern’s Dylan Wu (playing with Luke Donald), Texas’ Beau Hossler (playing with Jordan Spieth) Texas A&M’s Adria Arnaus (playing with Bronson Burgoon) UCLA’s Johnathan Garrick (playing with Kevin Chappell) UNLV’s Taylor Montgomery (playing with Charlie Hoffman), USC’s Bobby Gojuangco (playing with Jamie Lovemark), Wake Forest’s Will Zalatoris (playing with Kyle Reifers) and Washington’s Johnathan Sanders (playing with Nick Taylor).

Photos from the 2022 PGA Show

Published

on

GolfWRX was on site for the golf business’s annual winter rite: the PGA Merchandise Show.

While the weather was less than cooperative for demo day, there were no such difficulties inside the Orange County Convention Center. This isn’t to say there weren’t significant figurative headwinds influencing this year’s Show, but those are widely discussed elsewhere. Our duty here was merely to document, and that is what we did to the tune of more than 1,500 photos, below.

Enjoy!

Interesting photos from the Mallorca Open

Published

on

Thanks to our friends at SMS_on_Tour for sending along some shots from last week’s Mallorca Open at Golf Santa Ponsa.

Denmark’s Jeff Winther topped a trio of players at 14 under (and some trouble in a bathroom) to win.

Let’s take a look at some interesting photos!

First up, Ashley Chesters with a Nike Vapor Fly 5-wood in the bag.

Twitter sensation Eddie Pepperell is one of the few pros we’ve spotted with a TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver in play.

Scott Hend’s wedges feature some fantastic stamping.

An original White Hot 2-Ball in the wild. The real OG!

Mitsubishi Kai’li (which officially launched today) spotted here.

Scott Hend with the pink paintfill on his Toulon Palm Beach.

Jazz Janewattanond’s wedge stamping never disappoints (even if often confounds)
