Callaway’s Links at Petco Park details: Layout, limited edition wedge

Published

on

Thanks to the novelty factor and a coordinated media blitz, you’ve likely heard about the Links at Petco Park, Callaway’s pop-up nine-hole golf course at the San Diego Padres’ stadium, which will be open to the public from Nov. 6-8.

We want to provide WRXers on the West Coast with some practical information about the layout, however, in order to assist in your strategizing, should you choose to trek to San Diego to tee it up.

First, cost. According to Callaway:

Pricing starts at $100 for twosomes ($50 per player) and $200 for foursomes. The cost includes parking, snacks and beverages along the course, limited edition “The Links at Petco Park” hats, and a nine-hole round for each golfer.

Upgraded Platinum twosomes and foursomes are also available for $400 and $800, respectively. In addition to the standard package, upgrades will include a limited-edition Padres-branded Callaway club for each golfer and tickets to a 2016 Padres game.

Here’s a look at the limited edition wedge.

And the local rules are worth noting, particularly the fact that you’ll be hitting two tee shots on eight of the nine holes and won’t be putting, it seems. Check out the scoring as well.

Regarding the layout (no word on whether Pete Dye was consulted), Callaway says:

The nine-hole course begins on a putting green in the home dugout at Petco Park. From there, golfers will move to the ballpark’s upper deck for holes Nos. 2-5, where they will hit shots onto the field from various locations. No. 6 will tee off on the field level near the Western Metal Supply Co. building before golfers move to the Batter’s Eye out in centerfield for No. 7. Hole No. 8 will feature another putting shot, this time in the bullpen. The final hole of the course will be located on the rooftop of the Western Metal Supply Co. building.”

Here’s the hole breakdown, scorecard, and course map.

There you have it. And if any WRXers choose to tackle “the Links,” be sure to let us know in the comments.

I was fortunate enough to play the links last night and had a blast. Epic deal for $50. I would have paid $150. I haven’t seen too many reviews, but Callaway gets a huge hat tip for putting on a first class event. It felt like no expense was spared from the time we walked in to when we left. There were rumblings about Callaway Links making it’s way across the nation to other ballparks. If the rumors are true, make sure to get tickets. It’s a great experience!!

If they aren’t putting, I hope they still fix their ballmarks!

Hmm. I would think that if they are not putting, fixing ball marks would be irrelevant. With the course being taken down after a few weeks, they don’t have to worry about the health of the greens.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
