Anthony Kim finally speaks!

Published

Anthony Kim

Golf fans still care about bold belt buckle aficionado Anthony Kim, who hasn’t put a peg in the ground on the PGA Tour since 2012 and has been the subject of some wild rumors in the interim.

How do we know this? Well, he’s still among the most searched for golfers on Rotoworld. See?

Screen Shot 2015-09-30 at 10.41.01 AM

Anyway, Kim gave his first interview in, like, forever (three years, to be precise) to the Associated Press’ golf ombudsman, Doug Ferguson.

Here are a few key takeaways.

1. He’s not on skid row, and he’s gone under the knife more times than Tiger Woods in the past three years

It seems AK has been significantly more injured than we knew. As he told Ferguson: “I’m going to step away from the game for a little while and get my body pieced together. Instead of going from an Achilles injury to try to go 180 mph and not fixing the problem … I’ve got so much ground to make up from injuries — rotator cuff, labrum, spinal fusion, hand injury. I’ve had six or seven surgeries in the last three-and-a-half years.”

2. He was planning on making a comeback in 2013

Ferguson reports Kim was preparing for the 2013 season with Phil Mickelson in California; he’d rented a house and was getting up at 5 a.m. to train. He was waylaid by an Achilles injury, followed by a herniated disk.

3. He doesn’t care about criticism of his lifestyle

A bold personality with a penchant for excess (otherwise known as the average college-aged male), Kim came under fire frequently during his playing days and has continued to since. The scrutiny doesn’t bother him, however.

“If you don’t like the way I live, change the channel. You’re the one who tuned in here. A lot of the golf public may not appreciate the way I live, which is by my own rules. But I give everyone respect. I’m not rude to anyone. And I treat everyone the same.”

4. What he’s been doing: Investing in a health care company, hanging out with mom and physical therapy

Kim is heavily invested in a “Dallas-based Quality Metrics Partners that was started with longtime friend and caddie Brodie Flanders and two others, including Mike Knall, a former punter for the Oklahoma Sooners. It provides ancillary service management in the health care industry. Kim said he made a substantial investment, which he made back within months.”

The former Ryder Cup star also recently purchased his mother a home in Beverly Hills and spent three weeks with her in South Korea.

Also, like everyone else, he enjoyed watching Jason Day and Jordan Spieth this year, and he hasn’t played a full round of golf in nearly two years.

5. It’s possible he’ll return to the PGA Tour

First, in the nuanced world of PGA Tour exemptions, it’s worth noting that Kim still has a major medical exemption. As Ferguson notes, he’d have to earn $613,500 in 16 events to keep his card.

So there’s a path. Will he take it? Will he be physically able to?

Presented with this question, Kim replied: “Anything is possible. Isn’t that what the slogan says?” referring to the Tour’s “Together, anything is possible,” slogan.

There are a few golf moves that can cause permanent bodily injury.
Tiger’s problems started after 2000; posting up on his left leg caused by a more upright swing.

Anthony Kim was almost pigeon toed at address and posted up on his left leg
which damages the spine where it is fused to the pelvic basin.

Countless numbers of golfers copy these moves and quietly suffer, permanent injury
Will it take the golf instructors to be taken to court for this to end?

We’re reading these phoney fantasy phrases by Kim cuz he still craves the spotlight and his clubs can’t do the talkin anymore.
If he really hasn’t partied away the $10M settlement he sold out for by now,
he might be better off just being thankful for what he has and fade quietly.

Always liked the guy. Hope he recovers and has a good quality of life. Playing on your or not, good luck AK! Do what you gotta do!

At least he’s not acting like a punk. Yes, that finger is pointed at you Sergio!

My understanding is he received a $10M medical settlement (which might be tax-free) that would be null and void if he ever tees up a golf ball and plays for money, He would have to pay the money back to the insurance company. In real dollars, he would have to earn close to $35M on the Tour to come out even with the $10M settlement, If this is true, why would he ever try to come back? There are no guarantees in pro golf. He would.bd xtarting all over and at his age, that would be a huge risk that no rational person would take.

A lot of this article is candy coated. AK is enjoying his life from his insurance settlement and he is still the party boy. My brother works for a media outlet and has ties to AK and his family and while I can’t say much more than I already have out of respect to him, there is little to no chance of him making a comeback.

My thoughts are he is/was a pain pill addict. I also am pretty positive VJ was too with all his back injuries but fixed his issues quickly. I think AK got injured and we all know he loved to party. I believe he planned to take time off and rehabd which he did but then the party kept on going while those got ahold of him amd when your an addict you find all sorts of injuries to keep the excuses up. Now he has a huge investment into a Health Center?! Hmmmm.. It’s interesting and again just my thoughts based on how he acted and what has gone down with him over the years. It happens often to everyone, not just athletes and it’s an epidemic in the US. Otherwise the kid/guy could turn it on and would love to see him come back!

      Judgemental much?
Btw, Metrics… ancillary services company isn’t a health center ya idiot.

Haters gonna hate. First off he could be telling the truth regarding injuries. Regarding his personal life he is absolutely correct that its his business and choice – not ours. Nobody is perfect including a lot of guys who are playing today including Tiger, Phil, Dustin Johnson, etc. I for one hope he gets well and if he chooses comes back to show us what he has got. We need a good comeback story. So far it certainly is not Tiger.

LOL, how much time does it take to drop money into a company? It’s not like he’s helping run the company. Working out and real estate shopping. Yeah, he’s done.

I loved watching AK when he was playing. Sure there are stories…But he was (and is) good for golf and he was atleast different and entertaining to watch.
I hope he can come back

hmmm…pretty vanilla….nothing about the alleged $100,000,000 insurance policy he has on himself that is keeping him from returning? Just the same ol’ lame duck injury reports? Nothing to see here.

Ha $100,000,000? More like $10-30 mil.

in a story on a different website the insurance policy was brought up which he said it was because he wasnt ready to compete from the injuries.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
