Snedeker, Scott separate themselves from the field

By the time first-round leader Adam Scott teed of in the second round of the British Open, he was no longer the leader. He was several shots behind Brandt Snedeker, who disected Royal Lythm & St. Annes in Round 2, matching the course record Scott had tied in Round 1 with a 64.
Snedeker’s rounds of 66-64 tied Nick Faldo’s record for the lowest 36-hole score in British Open history. Faldo posted his 130 score at Murfield in 1992, a tournament he went on to win over John Cook by one shot.
“I’ve gotten fortunate for when I haven’t driven it in play I’ve been able to get up around the greens this week,” Snedeker said. “And my iron play has been pretty? I call it boring golf. I’m shooting away from every pin, trying to put it 25, 30 feet away and hopefully make some putts, which I’ve done the first two days and hopefully plan on doing the next few days.”
Scott got off to much slower start in Round 2, playing his first six holes at 1-over, but birdies at Nos. 7, 10 11 and 18 put him in solo second place, only one back of Snedeker heading into the weekend.
Three-time British Open champion Tiger Woods is alone in third place after a second-straight 67. He closed out his round with birdies on two of his last three holes to put himself within striking distance of the lead. Woods ended his round in dramatic fashion. After finding his first bunker of the week on his approach shot to No. 18, he holed his bunker shot, releasing a Tiger-esque fist pump with full sound effects.
“Overall I’m very pleased at where I’m at,” Woods said. ” We’re at the halfway point and I’m right there in the mix.”
Overnight rains turned several of Royal Lythm & St. Annes bunkers into small ponds, but weather was again not a factor for players in Round 2. The forecast for the weekend does not call for rain, which Woods said should make “for a good weekend.”
After a 67 in Round 1, Rory McIlroy struggled to second-round 75. Lee Westwood is also well back of the lead, following a 3-over 73 with a round of even par, making the cut on the number at 3-over. Phil Mickelson closed out a disappointing week, missing the cut with rounds of 73-78.
Other prominent names near near the top of leader board include Matt Kuchar and Jason Dufner (-4), Ernie Els (-3) and Luke Donald and Steve Stricker (-2).

It’s set up for a great weekend finish. So many big names at the top of the leaderboard.
Being an Australian i’m really hoping Adam Scott can win this one and his 1st major championship.
