IN HAND: TaylorMade M1 Driver 460cc and 430cc

TaylorMade unveiled new driver and iron offerings with much fanfare earlier this week. GolfWRX was on hand for the launch, and of course, the weaponry was the subject of much discussion in the forums.

If you played on the PGA Tour….

RickieFowler

Here’s a great thread started by tanker44 with this question:

“Lets say you woke up and were on the PGA Tour. Many players have a signature of some sort – Gary Player/Mickelson wearing black, Jesper and his hat, Boo with his gut and camo, Rickie and the color orange, Keagan wearing basketball shoes, etc. What would be your signature? I would wear button up denim shirts.”

While the merits of a the signature denim shirt may be debatable, the entertainment factor of this thread isn’t.

Baseball-bat style grip

Holy Moses is the mastermind behind this thread:

“Think I’m getting a minor thumb infection. Some dirt got down in my left thumbnail a few days back after I jammed it. Thought mostly nothing of it, just tried to get the dirt out. Hit balls Saturday and it felt ok. Put some Neosporin under the nail, but my thumb is getting puffy and sore. Tried to hit balls today before playing, but the overlap caused by my right thumb/palm on my left thumb hurt too much.

“I decided to use a baseball grip. After a few shots I was hitting the ball really well, especially my wedges. I could really sense how to square the clubface with my wedges. But as I started playing, my shots started fading. I did feel like I was hitting the ball further and could get my right arm really active. I need to use two gloves though because my right hand got sore and blistered due to my Crossline cords.”

“How many of you use a baseball grip? Someone on Tour does; Piercy I think. And yes, probably wise to see a doctor and get some antibiotics.”

First of all, from all of us at GolfWRX: see a doctor before you’re posting a “Nine-finger grip” thread, Holy Moses.

Secondly, this thread is a fine example of the sort of discussion you’ll see in the the Instruction & Academy forum, in which golfers will stop at nothing to improve. Check out some of the replies, and when you’re looking for an honest, informed discussion about how to shoot lower scores, check out the forum.

The “game changer”

MizunoJPX850

Insightful post here from Sean2. This thread gets at the heart of our love for golf equipment, what we’re really buying, what we hope it will accomplish. It’s a must-read for any equipment enthusiast.

“However, what I have learned is that through all that I never discovered a “game changer”, and in reading all the threads, discussions, and what not I never saw anyone else that did either.

“I have never read a post where someone said, “I went from a 10 to a 5 since I started playing these clubs.” Individual may talk about how much they love a certain club(s), but they don’t seem to have much impact on their HI, and a few months later it’s on to the next “big thing”, and those clubs they were raving about not to long ago have been relegated to the dustbin of history.

“Now, I like new gear as much as the next person, but I am much more circumspect now when I do make a purchase. If there is not a substantial difference over what I currently have, I do not make a change.”

What do you think about his post?

Patrick Boyd, VP of Custom Sales for Scratch started a thread to showcase the custom jobs the company does. Along the way, Scratch buyers have added to the thread with photos of their weaponry.

Why Ludvig Aberg is my new favorite player – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing one of the new sensations in the world of golf – Ludvig Aberg. The 24-year-old finished solo second at the Masters a couple of weeks ago, and gained many plaudits, including from several WRXers.

One member, RoyalMustang, took to the forums to explain why Aberg is now their favorite player, saying:

“I loved the way the Ludvig was out there, having a great time, not taking himself or the situation too seriously. Even after the double at 11, he was like “well, that’s golf!” Loose and relaxed: that’s the way to play. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing, he loves the big moments, and he loves being a part of it all.

Arnold Palmer was viewed that way. Just like Brooks Robinson was forever viewed as not just a great baseball player, but a great human being and friend to Baltimore.”

And our members have been reacting and sharing their positive takes on the young Swede.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • redfirebird08: “Ludvig has a great attitude, a great smile, and a great golf swing.”
  • otto6457: “I’m very lucky to have talked with Ludde several times at the Rawls Course at Texas Tech.  He’s a truly nice guy and very friendly.  Always said hello when we passed each other in the club house and was always smiling. Watching him hit balls on the range was a joy.  He has “that sound” and trajectory to die for.  There were many times he was out on the range in 30+ mph winds just hitting the most beautiful shots that just seemed to ignore the wind.  World class ball striker. And yes……..I am a fan boy.”
  • konklifer: “I like him. In an era of endless waggles and laboring, his swing and pace of play are a joy to watch.
