Nowadays Mizuno standard is approx 1/4″ shorter than most OEMs (some measure including the butt of the grip). Their standard 5 iron is 37.75″

What does it mean when the driver is 45-inches but tipped 1-inch? Does that mean its now 44-inches? Or was it 46 before and now it’s 45?

    Thanks for the rookie clarification!

It measures 45 inches, but 1 inch was cut off the tip when trimming the shaft to the final length. That makes it play stiffer.

Thanks but I guess I knew that much. My question really is how do I interpret how it’s written here? If it reads: “45-inches (tipped 1-inch)” does that mean it “currently” measures 45 (meaning it “was” 46 and then he tipped it 1-inch to 45)?

I shouldn’t complain too much about this, because it seems everybody does it…

But an iron length number of “+0.75 inches” doesn’t mean much to me, apart from the fact that Chris Wood is really tall, which I already knew…

I think I’d rather know what a player’s 5-iron length is. 37.50 inches? More? Less? Because I think that the Mizuno standard is a 37.5 inch 5-iron, but who can be sure? I’m old enough to remember when a standard 5 iron was 37 inches. Someday soon it may be 38 inches and it could be that already in some models/brands/lines.
