If Dustin loses the U.S. Open, TaylorMade wins

Published

on

If Dustin Johnson wins the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay next month, everyone who purchased a TaylorMade R15 or AeroBurner driver between now and June 17th at the PGA Tour Superstore gets their money back.

So basically if Dustin wins, the fans win. If Dustin loses, TaylorMade and the Superstore win.

Early betting odds have Johnson pegged at 16/1 to win at Chambers Bay, which means you’re most likely paying full price for a new TaylorMade driver, but there is a chance.

Dustin is really in an awkward position here. If he wins, he costs his sponsor a bunch of money. If he loses, his sponsor is happy, but he lets his fans down.

What a time it would be to finally get over the hump and win his first major — free drivers for everyone!

You can also win by not buying a product

Participate by No Purchase Entry Form: To participate without making a purchase, visit any PGA TOUR Superstore retail location and ask a sales associate for an official Entry Form (the ?Entry Form?). Complete all required fields on the Entry Form, including selecting which Driver you wish to receive (if applicable) and mail it to the following address, as indicated on the form: If D.J. Wins You Win Promotion, PO Box 7694, Melville, NY 11775-7694 (?Entry?). Entries must be postmarked and received during the Rebate Period, to be eligible. Entries will not be acknowledged or returned and proof of sending will not be deemed proof that the Entry was received. No copies/facsimiles of an Official Entry Form will be accepted.

Dustin will be near the lead with 9 holes to go on Sunday, having buyers on the edge of their seats. Then he will do one of two things: (A) Unintentionally ground his club in a hazard. (B) Shank an easy layup shot out of bounds. Either way, he’ll blow it and finish around T10.

Your prediction was spot on about him loosing in a strange way.

After putting so well, how did he miss the last putt that would have taken him to a play-off? I give him the eagle putt, that one was tough.

How many drivers did PGA Superstore and Taylormade sell before the open? I figured that if they sold $25 million worth and gave $5 million to DJ to not win would be a win-win situation…

    Andrew,
I don’t think you understand how these types of things work. Taylormade/PGA SS buy an insurance policy based off the probability of DJ winning. If he wins, the insurance company loses. The policy is already purchased and paid for so Taylormade doesn’t stand to lose further whether he wins or loses. They would likely profit MORE from him winning due to the publicity this campaign would garnish

This same concept is done with hole-in-one prizes and other sweepstakes.

Exactly, TaylorMade wins IF Dustin wins – not the other way. Nice try with a play on words, but silly, never-the-less.

who knows – they might choose to self insure this – that would show some faith in DJ!!! 🙂

Self insure would show no/less faith, right?

Correct, or TM would simply bet (which is what they are doing indirectly by taking an insurance policy) on him winning hence hedging any losses with the upside being publicity ( that their product won and that the ‘hic’ gave away the driver).

You mean, if Dustin wins…eBay wins!!!

Sweet, they have a 30-day return policy for equipment in original condition. So, get one before the U.S. Open but don’t use it. If Dustin wins, you got yourself a free driver, in case he doesn’t win, just return it.

Not so, read the “official rules” rule #7. No refunds if he loses or fails to play or finish.

      • Jordan

        May 19, 2015 at 2:44 pm

Also not so. Rule 7 is just them stating that Taylormade will not award refunds if DJ doesn’t win for any reason. Has nothing to do with returning unused merchandise to store directly. However, rule 5b tells you that you can enter by going to the store and asking for an entry form- no purchase necessary!

I believe if you return an item you are issued a refund. So no refunds means no refunds. I do see anything in the rule about a taylormade refund? When i see something that states no refunds, to me it cant be returned for a refund. No matter what the store policy is in general returns. But rule 5b is the best option to avoid any hassle

          • Jordan

            May 20, 2015 at 9:23 am

The “refund” the rules speak of is the check Taylormade would issue to you for the price of the driver you purchased if DJ does win, it is not a direct refund from the store itself. There is no possible way PGASS can tell a customer that because they purchased a product when a contest is going on, that the customer is not even automatically entered into for purchasing the product, you are not allowed to return the product. Any time the rules say “refund” it is talking the check Taylormade would send if you win, not a direct return of goods to the store.

“Refund” = check you get from Taylormade for winning contest. Get check and still keep the driver. Not the same as taking unused product back to the store.

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
