Keegan Bradley and Miguel Angel Jimenez nearly fight

Published

on

Keegan Bradley and Miguel Angel Jimenez came face-to-face, and nearly came to blows, in an argument over a drop on hole No. 18 of Round 3 at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play on Friday.

On the eve of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao boxing match, it was almost Fight Night at Harding Park when “The Most Interesting Man in Golf,” told Bradley’s caddie, Steven Hale aka Pepsi, to “Shut up.”

Here’s a fan video that reveals more of the argument between Bradley, Jimenez and Hale.

SOME CRAIC

POSTED BY HOWARD HUGHES ON FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2015

Golf is usually a gentlemanly game, one of respect and reverence. So when golfers get heated, and nearly throw punches, it’s unorthodox — and admittedly entertaining, too.

It’s also peculiar because both players were statistically eliminated from advancing, playing for basically peanuts and pride. Jimenez, however, got chippy and “accusatory” with a ruling on the last hole of the match.

Tension began when Jimenez was displeased with a drop he received on No. 13, which caused a delay in the round. Apparently, his emotions carried over into the 18th hole as well.

Based on the videos, it seems Bradley was merely defending his caddie, a move that fellow Tour pro Graham DeLaet supports.

And if anyone cares, Miguel won the match 2 up.

The author, Andrew Tursky, failed to mention the most relevant parts leading to the heated exchange as reported by every other news source. 1. In match play, players are to question rulings on the spot. 2. Miguel Angel Jimenez was reminding Keegan Bradley of the actual rule which it appeared he was not following. 3. Caddies are not to advise other players, or argue rulings. 4. Miguel Angel Jimenez only told the caddie to shut up after the caddie spoke and mocked Jimenez’s Spanish accent.

They need to start allowing “open carry.”

Even if all casino games are based on luck,
that doesn. Your own cover should be accustomed to retail store items for example

It is amazing how many idiots do not know match play rules. MAJ was fully within his right to be there. Moron Pepsi opened his big mouth and Red Sox nation idiot Keegan acted like an azz.

I didn’t hear the entire exchange, but I did witness the
threatening manner of Keegan Bradley on national TV.
Arrogant. condescending, childish to say the least.

If MAJ’s caddie would’ve been there, it could’ve been a lot worse, this confrontation could’ve really come to blows! On another note, caddies have no business involving themselves in a ruling decision! When it comes to golf, caddies need to stick to the caddie creed “Show up, keep up, shut up”!!
However, caddies are a squirly lot, you pretty much have to be….. When I caddied as a kid, a fight would break out every damn day, the members would say “Caddies have to be tough, it’s hard in the yard”!

And the caddies want to come in the clubhouse????

Lots of stupidity going around. MAJ had a right to go over and give his opinion but he wouldn’t stop talking, giving that opinion. Rules official right there to confirm decision. Make your point and move on, unless you’re there to upset everyone, which is what he went over there for. He was obviously upset about his earlier ruling and that fueled his interjection. Bradley didn’t handle it great but you can’t fault him for defending him self and caddie, I have no problem with that.

As a fan, I love it all.

    May 5, 2015 at 9:10 am

To begin with I’d like to clarify, that I’m Spanish, but not the biggest fan of MAJ.
I’m glad to see, that even though we are talking about an incident between an American and a foreigner, the majority seems to be with spaniard.
In my humble opinion, it doesn’t matter who was right, because the moment you stick up someone’s face, you loose any rightfulness.
But on top of this it seems that MAJ was right, because first in match play you are entitled to request any clarification when the opponent is receiving a ruling, as it affects directly to the result on the hole they are playing. Also the ruling had to be done under the rules ad the R&A as the tournament is played under those rules and not the PGA or the USGA, so as a European tour player I give MAJ the benefit of the doubt.
And last but not least, what the hell does a caddy to say on all this, I just don’t get how did Bradley allow his caddie to even talk, much worst, be un respectful by talking with that stupid accent. I honestly think he should be fined for that.
As said I’m glad the majority seems to understand that the one that was hugely mistaken here was Bradley.

    • devilsadvocate

      May 5, 2015 at 10:44 pm

Incorrect… The caddie asks “are you gonna delay us some more Miguel?” That is all… No mocking of his accent folks… Have another listen… Apparently there was a delay earlier in the round that had to do with a drop and emotions were still present from that incident… Hard to make a judgement without being there for the first delay

      • Antonio

        May 6, 2015 at 12:12 pm

I’ve listened it a few times, and unless the caddy’s english is worst than MAJ’s, I’m sure he is trying real hard to be disrespectful. And as said before, he shouldn’t even talk to a player.

  13. DolphLundrenade

    May 4, 2015 at 7:57 pm

Bradley just lost a supporter. You can’t defend a caddie, who has no business talking to anyone other than his own player, the rules official or spectators, when they mock a player’s accent. If Bradley is comfortable with his caddie, I’m not comfortable with him. Glad Jimenez won the match and remained calm- like a gentleman. If the tour doesn’t do anything, then hopefully Cleveland and his sponsors do. I’ve never seen a player of his caliber walk up to another player and puff out his chest and act tough. Jimenez is twice his age! C’mon dude. What? He looked so foolish doing that. What’s he going to do there? Punch a 50-year-old man? If I were a spectator and that had occurred, they would need some security to stop me from defending Jimenez.

    • killerbgolfer

      May 5, 2015 at 9:55 pm

My thoughts too. There was no out for this where Bradley looks good, once he got in MAJ’s face. It sure didn’t seem to simmer down afterwards either.

    • Mendez

      May 5, 2015 at 7:03 pm

Jimenez had all the right to be there! and once the rules official told Bradley how to drop, Jimenez also had all the right to disagree and let them know and even ask for a second opinion from another rules official. Sorry Curt, but your comment just shows your lack of knowledge.

that would make the golf more interesting…bring in “hockey” fights….
not baseball fights where you must mingle around and hold onto another guy’s arms..

I can see Tiger hitting someone but then having to push his broken bones back into place.
Dustin Johnson would probably be tough to take down. Sergio would do flying kicks.
Stadler(s) would just get on top of your and smother you. Ian Pouler would say “Don’t touch my hair”.

  16. jc

    May 4, 2015 at 12:14 pm

the old pony tail had no business even getting involved…that is the rules official’s job…secondly, old cigar breath was wong…it is not just two club lengths…that is only for an unplayable lie and costs a stroke…you get relief from the stands, 1 club,,,THEN if that puts you on the cart path, you get another club from the nearest point of relief, based on where the ball is, not where you feet would be…

but like every spain boy in ryder cups, they always want to play mind games by jiggling coins, crossing their legs, or starting to walk right when a guy is putting.

Sorry, but you are the one wrong here. This tournament was sanctioned by R&A, nit PGA or USGA., so Jimenez was right, He was actually helping Keegan to make sure he used the 2 clubs and not 1 club length. But typical American, he was arrogant and his caddy even more. SO happy he lost!!

Keegan and “pepsi” are idiots. I hope I never see that idiot Red Sox Nation jerk Bradley on the Ryder Cup Team ever again. He is an annoying moron. Duffner and Bubba should run away from KeeganBradley. Apparently, Pat Bradley never taught her idiot nephew how to behave on a golf course.

Err maybe it was sanctioned by the R&A…

  20. Jafar

    May 4, 2015 at 9:44 am

That was rude to mock someone’s accent. Can Keegan’s caddie speak Spanish? Probably not, and if he did it would probably sound a lot worse than Miguel’s English.

Not a fan of people picking fights with old men, show some respect.

Keegan should be fined for getting in someones face as if he was going to physically hurt them, this is the PGA tour not the NBA…

  21. ooffa

    May 4, 2015 at 8:06 am

Certainly it didn’t almost come to blows. That would never happen with Keegan. Imagine how many times he would have to line up his punch then back away then line it up again then back away then spit then line it up etc etc. By the time he threw a punch the everyody would have fallen asleep

MAJ told him to shut up only after he started mocking his accent. I’m frankly amazed he only told him to shut up. As for Keegan feeling the need to back up/protect his caddie against the 50+ years old Jimenez…Well that’s just ridiculous, makes him look just as stupid as his caddie

I can’t believe outside of Brandel and Duval’s, there has been no mention about the ethnic mocking by “Pepsi” of Miguel and his accent. “Ju wanta chu talka some more Miguel?” You can hear it in the Fans video. I’m surprised all Miguel said was shut up.

  25. Robeli

    May 3, 2015 at 9:41 pm

Keegan was out of line, actually rude. What Bramlee and Duval also missed to mentioned on TGC, was that Jimenez was actually helping Keegan, as that rule under R&A allows 2 club length drop, while under USGA (PGA) only 1. Now Jimenez is the Grinch?? Just another example of American arrogance. Yea, maybe ‘shut up’ is not acceptable, but they are just using that to ‘defend’ Keegan’s rude actions.

  26. Jimmy

    May 3, 2015 at 8:54 pm

Ya i agree with Christopher. Match play completely changes rules decisions. Also im pretty sure there are rules that require your playing partner to agree with the reason for invoking a rule ie, damaged golf ball.

    • jc

      May 4, 2015 at 12:21 pm

no, if you disagree with the ruling, you can make note of it and then play on. you must make the point before they tee off on the next hold though. then when you are done, it will be reviewed.

the trouble with ALL pro golf is how they go crazy if there is not a perfect lie, there is water on the grass, etc. A guy will be on a slight muddy patch and immediately, they call a rules official over to see if they can move it. they get relief from plugged lies in the rough which is not the rule.

but it would have been fun to see a good wrestling match between golfers….angel would probably go for the legs while keegan has the reach so he could have held him off with the job. But Angel could lead with his face and go for the body.

if only howard cosell was around to broadcast it.

      • Printman

        May 4, 2015 at 2:58 pm

It has to be settled in match play before you tee off on the next hole. There is no after the round review.

      May 3, 2015 at 10:14 pm

well played on kerfuffle. that needs to be used more often.

  28. Christopher

    May 3, 2015 at 6:16 pm

This was unpleasant, Bradley was out of line telling MAJ to go away, when he was in his right to question a ruling. I’m surprised the officials or the reporters didn’t mention that to Keegan?

There was an incident a few years back with John Daly, either his caddy or the other player’s caddy got involved in ruling and was told the same thing, it’s not the done thing. Rules decisions are the player’s and official’s business and matters should be discussed between them. Especially when two players are involved in match play.

I do wonder where MAJ’s caddy was? I think it was fortunate that there wasn’t another person involved!

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
