Rory supplants Tiger as face of EA Sports PGA Tour video game

Published

on

EA Sports announced on Monday that Rory McIlroy is the new face of its PGA Tour video game — a position that Tiger Woods held for 15 years.

In June 2015, EA Sports is releasing Rory McIlroy PGA Tour on Xbox One and Playstation 4, with the current No. 1-ranked golfer as its face and namesake.

Woods, who is currently ranked No. 87 in the Official World Golf Rankings, ended his relationship with EA Sports in 2013, which was the last time a PGA Tour video game was released.

Under the moniker “Golf Without Limits,” EA Sports’ newest golf game has what’s called a “Frostbite engine” to enhance user experience with the most-detailed course graphics in franchise history, and zero load time between shots.

The game offers a variety of real-world courses, as well as “epic fantasy courses,” according to EA Sports, where golfers can play shots from nearly any location on its landscapes. Thus, gamers can play “golf without limits.”

McIlroy, who admits to being a video gamer himself, said he’s honored to be on the cover of EA Sports PGA Tour golf game.
[quote_box_center]”When you grow up playing golf you never really dream of being a character in a video game, let alone the guy on the box,” McIlroy told GolfDigest.com. “The technology powering the game is incredible. The courses are absolutely gorgeous, and looking at screenshots from the game you think someone just took a photo of the actual holes.”[/quote_box_center]
Here are some screenshots from actual gameplay (via Polygon):

Goodbye Tiger. You may still try to play next couple of majors. Maybe there is still something to grasp.

Why would they not release on PS3, I don’t want to spend $400 just to play one game and I can’t be the only one with this issue. I spend all my money one golf clubs.

I’m just happy to see EA come back out with this series I don’t care who is on the cover, and to the one slamming video gamers, I get my heart rate up plenty, I play 2-4 times a week and walk. Sometimes you just want to sit and relax. Video games is my way of getting some ME time, after playing with my kids and having family time.

Rory is good for golf along with Ricky and Spieth. Tiger is old, broken down and has moral failing. Tiger is like the Sonny Liston of golf.

This is why EA grows while golfing slows. These games are supplanting golf with the new generation and if the new VR works as promised it’s gonna get really rough.

Ahh my case I played tiger woods pga tour for 5 years before I ever picked up a club. Now I am a member of a club play twice weekly, sometimes a couple of range sessions also, I check this site almost daily and own 3 full sets of clubs with spares on top of that and have a thousand brand new golf balls. Ea has grown the real world of golf in this case.

Xbox One = $350. Playstation 4 = $445. Let’s say this game cost $50 (but I think it might be much more than that). So to play this video game customers have to pay $400 for Xbox and $495 for Playstation plus tax. My local muni season pass cost $189 and I can play real golf as much as I want from April to Oct 31st. I walk and carry my sticks. That helps increase speed of play and also increases the heart rate. An increased heart rate helps one lose weight and losing weight helps improve overall health and self-esteem.

I just want to make sure I’m clear on this. (1) EA Sports is expecting customers to pay hundreds for something that is fake. (2) It won’t help you improve your real golf game and (3) will increase your BMI and weight because you’re sitting on your backside for hours and hours. (4) As a result, your self esteem will be in the toilet because you look and feel horrible.

EA Sports, are you nuts? Play Real Golf America. Your body and mind will thank you for years to come.

yes , you’re clear on this (about the cost). Golf clubs, bag, balls, gloves, shoes, clothing, lessons & maybe custom fitting= $1,000.00. And you don’t need to know d rules of golf & play as long as you want.

And also you don’t have to be hit into or slowed up on every hole, or deal with “entitled” people on the course.

I love playing real golf… but I live in New England…. I can’t golf outside right now. Video games help me pass the time until Spring, and I can play them at night, when I cannot golf outside.

You left out 5 hour rounds vs. playing with people from all over the world in less than 3 hours regardless of weather. Your attitude exemplifies the reason that EA will make billions and golf courses will continue to lose money and Avid’s.

It is not aimed at golfers sure some will pick it up but the primary audience they are going for is fans of sport video games. The chances are that if you are interested in this title for the gameplay (not the fact that it has Rory on the cover) then you already have a PS4 or Xbox One.

Is that an ad for the video game or for Nike?

What GolfWRXers are saying about Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Kevin Kisner’s new Callaway X Forged CB irons which he has in the bag at this week’s CJ Cup. WRXers have been commenting on the switch and the clubs themselves in our forums.

For lots more photos, check out the full thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • btyh: “Holy offset.”
  • Glf_LU: “These are interesting. Not going to make a rush to judgement until I see them in person. It does look like a little more offset than I would expect to see in this model.”
  • bcflyguy1: “Kisner is not one to make a lot of equipment changes (see the GBB driver he’s still using), so if these do have staying power in his bag that will be interesting to see. I have to wonder if there’s something different about his set, because like others have mentioned there appears to be more offset on his than I recall seeing in the samples I’ve had in hand.”

WATCH: PGA Tour players play hole blindfolded and it’s hilarious/amazing

Published

on

As part of a Srixon campaign, four PGA Tour players recently participated in a three-hole challenge, with each hole being a different game; hole No. 1 was blindfolded, hole No. 2 was costumes and distractions, and hole No. 3 was alternate shot with a baseball bat. The teams were Smylie Kaufman and Sam Ryder against Shane Lowry and Grayson Murray.

Watch the full video below, since it is quite entertaining (albeit not the type of golf that Old Tom Morris surely had in mind), but in particular, make sure to check out the first hole where Lowry and Ryder play a full hole completely blind folded. It’s amazing to watch how badly Ryder struggles, and how Lowry nearly makes par.

Cleveland-Srixon’s marketing department has been hard at work crafting these viral-esque ad campaigns; if you remember, former long-drive champion Jamie Sadlowski recently dressed as 80-year-old Grandpa Jamie to fool range-goers. That video has since gathered over 1.2 million views on YouTube.
