Tiger Woods began the marketplace buzz when he debuted the prototypes on Tour last summer. The distinctive shoes will now be available to consumers starting June 8, 2012.

The inspiration behind the Nike TW ‘13 footwear began with Woods himself. He asked for a shoe that gave him the performance fit and feel as his Nike FREE shoes when he runs and trains. That question ignited collaboration between Woods, Nike Golf’s footwear creation team and Nike’s Innovation Kitchen, led by Tobie Hatfield.

“I train with Nike FREE technology all the time,” said Woods. “I love training in it, running in it, lifting in it. So I asked, why can’t I play golf in it?”

After Woods shared his insights, Nike’s footwear team immediately went to work. The result is an iconic shoe with Nike’s natural motion engineered outsole, inspired by Nike FREE technology.

“Now my feet are stronger and I feel more athletic,” said Woods. “These shoes provide freedom of movement and allow me to release more power through my swing.”

The natural motion engineered outsole is designed to mimic and conform to the natural motion of the foot, coupled with the protection and traction of a lightweight performance golf shoe. This innovative outsole allows the athlete to keep contact with the ground longer, better harnessing the energy of the foot to the shoe and, therefore, the shoe to the ground.

“An athlete trains every other part of their body, except maybe their foot,” said Hatfield. “Natural motion technology helps increase the strength of the muscles and flexibility within the foot. It brings out the human potential for each athlete.”

The Nike TW ’13 also features the new Nike Dynamic Fit support system. Targeted support delivers unprecedented strength-to-weight ratio and one-to-one fitted support. Flywire-infused nylon straps extend 360° from the footbed to the lacing system, securing the foot for an adaptive fit that provides golfers stability with mobility.

To ensure that the TW ’13 upper moves in concert with the Dynamic Fit system, designers turned to Nike’s Innovation Kitchen to source the multidirectional stretch synthetic available in Tiger’s signature colors of White or Black with Red accents.

By far the most comfortable golf shoes out there. They look awesome in person and are very well made.

Thank you for those commentors that spoke on the actual quality and support. I’m a 14 HCP that’s had an extreme ankle fracture and knee surgery causing all kinds of fun shooting pains. I can’t wait to give these puppies a try.

I am 7 hcp and am 65 yrs old- These shoes are truly revolutionary. The last thing I needed was a new pair of golf shoes but I have been experiencing some knee and hip pain. I can honestly say that these shoes mitigate most of my hip and knee issues. I think this may be one of the best retail golf decisions I have ever made. They also look MUCH better in person than in pictures. Highly Recommended even at this price point!

Love all the comments from guys who haven’t even tried them on. I have never been a nike golf shoe fan but these are unbelievable! Just got a pair for fathers day and these are probably the most comfortable yet supportive pair of golf shoes on the market. Its a pair of running shoes with spikes and lateral support. The wave of the future. Try them on all you Tiger Haters! Worth every penny!

For players with bad knees, this looks like a nice option.

The commercial reminds of The Big Miss, when Hank talks about how Tiger used to run sprints between practice sessions. The shoes are OK, but definitely not $180, more like $80.

It cracks me up how people always have some negative comments about Tiger.. Leave the man alone!!! If you don’t like the shoe’s don’t buy them. I personally like the shoes and would recommend them to a fellow golfer… It really sounds like you can’t wait for the Tiger buzz to fade… Get use to it he is the best golfer in the WORLD!!!!!

It’s a great concept for golf shoes moving forward. That being said, be careful wearing this shoe if you are even a mild pronator in your feet. The curved last will not be comfortable on you for even 5 minutes, let alone a whole round.

Those shoes are so ugly, I dont care how athletic they make you….don’t ever wear something that looks like that. As soon as the Tiger buzz wears off again, they are just another pair of Nike’s.

Spotted: Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Ti 340 mini driver, DUW fairway wood

Published

on

We have seen a few new mini drivers from the likes of Titleist and TaylorMade being tested out on tour recently. Now, Callaway looks to be jumping into the mix at the RBC Heritage. We spotted Christian Bezuidenhout testing out a new Paradym Ai Smoke Ti 340 mini driver on the range. We don’t have any details yet but the club clearly states “mini driver” on it, and the “340” could easily refer to how many CCs the head is.

What we do know is that this mini driver has a very similar design to the current Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 3-wood. The sole looks to be made from steel or titanium, not forged carbon like the Paradym Ai Smoke drivers. It has weights up near the face and at the back of the club. Callaway’s OptiFit hosel is also present on this driver to allow loft and lie adjustments, and if you look closely on the face, you can make out the “Ai Smart Face” text at bottom center. The crown looks to have the familiar carbon fiber weave and Ai Smoke logos we have seen on the current clubs.

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke DUW

The other Callaway prototype that was spotted looked to be a little more of a traditional fairway wood — but with non-traditional weight placements on it. Callaway’s Paradym Ai Smoke DUW looks to have four adjustable weights on it — two on the sole, one on the hosel, and one on the toe. This hosel isn’t adjustable, and I would assume that is to save some weight from creating spots for the movable weights.

It is hard to tell from the photos, but the face looks to be a touch deeper than the traditional Triple Diamond fairways. This deeper face could be where the “DUW” name comes from. With three weights all pushed forward near the face this DUW has to be a very low spinning and launching head. The sole is made from metal and similar in design to the current Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond fairway woods as is the carbon crown.
