Adam Scott switches to a short putter at Doral, finishes T4

After much speculation, Adam Scott put a short putter into play at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, where he shot a 70-68-75-71 to finish 4-under par and in a tie for fourth place.

Scott used an anchored putter for more than 4 years, but with the anchored putting ban less than than 10 months away he chose to rid his bag of his long putter this week.

Although he tested a few different putters on the putting green on Wednesday, Scott chose an Odyssey White Ice #7 with a SuperStroke Slim 3.0 Midnight Series grip for the WGC-Cadillac.

Employing a variation of the claw grip, Scott ranked 12th (3.098) in Strokes Gained-Putting for the week.

Well done Scotty… From all the Claw brothers out there.

Ps. Hurry up a get rid of the index finger on the top and get your palm to face the target and not your body.

It’s good to see he putted well right out the gate with the short putter. Should help build his confidence with it.

The problem with Scotty Cameron putters right now is they’ve decided to go with their Duel Balance concept where they add 50 grams to both the grip end and the head of the putter. This isn’t the same as counterbalance.

From what I’ve seen from some people who used an anchored putter for years and switched back to a standard length is that going with a counterbalanced putter and something like the claw grip seems to produce great results.

Cameron Shmameron. I had a Cameron Red-X I liked and putted solid with for like 6 years and on a trip to AZ some TSA agent decided it would look better in his bag so when I arrived it didn’t. I went to a local used equipment store and bought a $15 Wilson clone of a Ping Craz-e to use. I putted the lights out and though it was not as appealing as on SC, my confidence inside 8 feet was outta sight as I drained a tons of them. I used it until 2012 when I bought a Odyssey Metal X #7 that has been there ever since. Good choice by Scott to play what works and also to man up and ditch the dorky looking broom handle.

Morals of the story… price/looks does not equal performance as I found out. How many times have I play with people who have awesome SCs and putt like sh!t. They sure look good missing their putts tho. And when you travel, put cheesy head covers on everything because TSA is untouchable to file a complaint against and they won’t investigate anyways.

That sucks about the Red X. I haven’t heard of TSA or airline personnel stealing clubs before, damaging clubs, but not stealing them.
I still have a Red X that I love, and am thinking of putting a Slim 3.0 on it (currently have one on an old Odyssey mallet). So its funny to see the exact same grip in play on Scott’s putter (same color too).
You are so correct about generic head covers. I have ones for all of my putters, even my extremely beat up used Cameron.

Short or long, it still just a stick with a flatface on the end. How about a Surveying Instrument for a putter? P&SI-EGOS

What length is the putter? Seems that Stenson and Donald have the same putter. Anyone know where it can be ordered?

Good for him except I wish it was still a Cameron in the bag.

Iv’e played SC for years but then I put my hands on a counter balanced Odyssey works #7 and that’s all thw wrote. I can’t believe how much I like rollling the rock with the Odyssey.

I know Cameron is/was working on a short putter for Adam but the way he’s putting with this Odyssey I don’t see it getting kicked out of the bag any time soon.

I am surprised he did not just go to the short version of the Futura. It’s a great stick.

I saw some pictures somewhere on here, of him trying the new X5. I’m sure he tried the short Futura as well. I love the X5 and think it looks better than the 7, but the 7 still wins out with the way it just aims it’s self. I get why him and Stenson both went with it.
