Tiger to miss Honda Classic, WGC at Doral
Last week, Tiger Woods announced that he was taking a break from the PGA Tour to rest a back injury, work on his game and spend time with people close to him.
It was a confusing statement, because Tiger didn’t rule out the possibility that he would play in the Honda Classic that begins Feb. 26, which at the time was only two weeks away.
Woods has dealt with both poor play and injuries on the course in 2015, including a last-place finish at the Hero Challenge in early December, a missed cut at the Waste Management Open in late January and a back injury (remember the glutes thing?) that caused him to withdraw from the Farmers Insurance Open on Feb. 5.
On Thursday, Honda Classic officials confirmed that Woods will not play in next week’s Honda Classic. Because of his current position in the Official World Golf Rankings (No. 66), Woods will also be ineligible for the following week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral.
So what is Woods’ next tournament? He traditionally plays the Arnold Palmer Invitational (March 19-22), which takes place three weeks before The Masters.

When are you Yanks going to admit that Tiger’s reign is done. He has had his time at the top and now should wander off into obscurity and let someone else take the title as king. After watching the PGA bend the rules just so he can play is just too much for me to bear. He has been caught cheating both off and on the course on more than one occasion. I hope the bastard retires for the good of golf.

Just out of curiosity (not trolling) did you get into golf before or after Tiger hit the scene?

Long before
Don’t get me wrong, I loved watching him, he was one of the greatest ever, and he was the only guy I ever saw who would still give 110% coming down the last even if he was 5 shots behind….he was that mentally tough he would still think he had a chance!
I wish him well and hope he makes it back, but enough of this Tiger stuff, we are all sick of it

But at the very least I would hope you can understand why the media are still so obsessed by him. The vast majority of golf related media is only there because of the boom the game went through in popular culture due solely to Tiger Woods.
Personally I want to see him win again and, at the very least, challenge in the majors to the point where we can actually discuss the possibility of him breaking Jack Nicklaus’ record. Tiger is easily the best player we have seen in decades and it would be good to see him go out on a high rather than painfully watch his prowess wane the same way Seve Ballesteros, ironically, did also due to his back injury.

Sure, I would love to see him win again and hope he does, and yes the popularity of modern day golf owes a LOT to him
Media attention today is way over the top. If he chose a regular coke over a diet one they would get a 10 page story out of it…
Unfortunately he is so much a modern day Seve – terrible driver, great short game and scrambler, incredible will to win, temperamental and crippled with a terrible back

Well speaking as a European, and a fan of Seve, who had to watch the sad decline of our best ever player (yes he was better than Faldo) then I sincerely hope that Tiger avoids having the same finish to his career.

Just so all the haters know I won’t be attending the Honda Classic or the WGC Cadillac Championship
Why?
Because Tigers Woods won’t be attending
So no hotel, gas, tickets, food , golf trips etc so YES his absence hurts the economy & the PGA
This is why he is so important to the game! Get well soon Tiger

Scotty, so right on…..it will not be long before the PGA starts feeling the pain of no Tiger and the running down of Phil M. All the players will see cuts in the payouts sometime in the near future also….and I bet within 3 or 4 years we will see several tournaments go by the way….You maynot want to call Tiger the best ever but if your interested in money he is by far the one to bring the most to the game…next up is Phil….I do not see any of the young guns being able to maintain or increase the money in the game..

I thought Tiger was taking a leave of absence to improve his game last week and said he’s not coming back until he is tournament ready? How is him missing tournaments worthy of a news story after he already said he’s not playing? When Tiger says he is back and in tournament form that is a news story until then waste the space on some other story.

He’s done…….question at Augusta…will he make the cut?
JHM
Feb 20, 2015 at 9:07 pm
I think the real question is will he complete 36 holes and at least be eligible to make the cut. however, based on recent performance his best chance at making the cut would be only playing 32 of the holes
