PNC Father/Son Challenge Photos

Published

on

GolfWRX is live from the 2014 PNC Father/Son Challenge at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla. The event is packed with major names in the family affair, including Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Nick Faldo, Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Davis Love III, Steve Elkington, Vijay Singh, Hale Irwin, Bernhard Langer and more.

All of the fathers are either major champions or winners of the The Players Championship, but the sons in the field have a wider range of talent levels — some are college golf hopefuls with strong junior/amateur resumes, while others have just picked up the game. Not every team has a chance to win, but it’s a a family bonding experience for everyone.

The 20-team event is played in a scramble format over 36-holes to determine the best father/son combination. Last year, Stewart Cink and Connor Cink took home the Willie Park Trophy, which goes to the winners of the tournament.

These irons are sweet. I am a Miura dealer and Aerotech also. I currently play the exact set. Feel is unbelievable results are fine. If you carry a handicap under 20 Miura has a set you can easily play. Defenitely the best of the best.

Thanks Golf WRX. FWIW I think these witb’s are where it’s at – good fun to gawk at compared with the pga and lpga players.

Anyone know how long Bernhard Langer has played those Hogan/Adams irons and wedges? He would never make it on Golfwrx! Maybe there is a lesson to be learned from him – don’t change what works.

Bernhard Langer has the best set ever. His set-up debunks the myth that clubs “wearout.” I was there and his Apex irons are over 25 years old and the Adams are over a decade. They have Hogan Apex shafts which is 30 year old tech. Even his driver (Fast 120 and 3 wood (BTY) are 3-5 years old. With this old worn out inferior equipment he beats everybody. He won another Schwab cup this year going away. If you ask him why he doesn’t change his clubs he’ll say why change. If you respond that clubs get old and wear out and new technology comes around he’d just laugh at you.

Mr. Nicklaus’ Miura irons are the business! I still think his signature blades were sauce as well. I think somebody should receive an honorary Icon’s Membership on WRX.
