Spieth first, Tiger last at the Hero World Challenge

Published

on

Jordan Spieth continued his good play at the Hero World Challenge, shooting a 6-under-par 66 to take the first round lead at Isleworth — but the story of the day was the poor play of Tiger Woods.

Woods opened with a 77 (5-over) that included a front-nine 41 and saw him hit his first shot out of bounds. One could argue that it wasn’t Tiger’s swing, but his short game that led to his last-place score.

Proof below.

What does this mean for Woods? Nothing, other than he hit some bad ones today from Isleworth’s difficult chipping areas. Let’s chalk it up to rust and move on. If Woods is still chipping like this in February, then it will be time to sound the sirens.

Spieth leads Henrik Stenson, Steve Stricker, Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson by a shot in the 18-man field.
