Photos from the 2014 PGA Championship

Published

GolfWRX is live this week from the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. The course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, will play as a par-71 measuring 7,458 yards for the championship. Most recently, Valhalla hosted the 2008 Ryder Cup, which was the last time the United States squad won the event, and its only win of the century.

Valhalla also hosted the 2000 PGA Championship, where Tiger Woods defeated Bob May in a legendary 3-hole playoff , which is remembered as one of golf’s great golf duels. The iconic image of the tournament, and one of the most memorable of Woods’ career, was when he confidently charged toward his 20-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, pointing at the ball as it crept in.

It’s been 14 years since the epic showdown, and neither player may be in the field this week. May has since lost his PGA Tour card, mostly due to back surgery in 2003 that caused him to lose feeling in his toes and stay mostly confined to a bed for nearly 3 years. He has since turned to teaching the sport, according to reports. Woods, who withdrew from last week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after re-injuring his own surgically repaired back, is uncertain as of Monday if he will play in 2014’s final major championship.

The field this week will be expectedly strong, including Rory McIlroy, newly ranked No. 1 according to the Official World Golf Rankings, who will attempt to win his second major of the year, fourth of his career. Also in the field is Adam Scott (No. 2 in the OWGR), Sergio Garcia (No. 3), Henrik Stenson (No. 4), Justin Rose (No. 5) and 2014 Masters Champion Bubba Watson (No. 7).

Might want to rush to the Salvation Army. Word is there is a huge uptick in their used club business. Seems that more and more golfers are gaming brands that have a lot of buzz in terms of Snob appeal but not so much in terms of innovation or performance. Dropping all those $2 Nassau’s can add up.

Photos from the 2022 PGA Show

Published

GolfWRX was on site for the golf business’s annual winter rite: the PGA Merchandise Show.

While the weather was less than cooperative for demo day, there were no such difficulties inside the Orange County Convention Center. This isn’t to say there weren’t significant figurative headwinds influencing this year’s Show, but those are widely discussed elsewhere. Our duty here was merely to document, and that is what we did to the tune of more than 1,500 photos, below.

Enjoy!

Interesting photos from the Mallorca Open

Published

on

Thanks to our friends at SMS_on_Tour for sending along some shots from last week’s Mallorca Open at Golf Santa Ponsa.

Denmark’s Jeff Winther topped a trio of players at 14 under (and some trouble in a bathroom) to win.

Let’s take a look at some interesting photos!

First up, Ashley Chesters with a Nike Vapor Fly 5-wood in the bag.

Twitter sensation Eddie Pepperell is one of the few pros we’ve spotted with a TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver in play.

Scott Hend’s wedges feature some fantastic stamping.

An original White Hot 2-Ball in the wild. The real OG!

Mitsubishi Kai’li (which officially launched today) spotted here.

Scott Hend with the pink paintfill on his Toulon Palm Beach.

Jazz Janewattanond’s wedge stamping never disappoints (even if often confounds)
