WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Photos
GolfWRX is live this week from the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club (South) in Akron, Ohio. The South course, a par-70, will measure 7,400 yards for the event.
Each of the top-50 qualifiers in the world, according to the Official World Golf Rankings, have committed to playing this week, including 2014 Open champion Rory McIlroy (No. 2 in the OWGR), Adam Scott (No. 1), and eight-time champion of the event, Tiger Woods (No. 10).
Woods, the defending champion, notched his eighth win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational last year, after shooting a second-round 61, to tie Sam Snead (Greater Greensboro Open) and himself (Arnold Palmer Invitational) for the most wins at a single event. As he chases the record books, Woods is also looking to tally enough points to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and catch the attention of Ryder Cup Captain Tom Watson, as he currently sits in 70th place on the American Ryder Cup points standings.

GolfWRX is on site this week at the Valero Texas Open.
The event has been around since 1922, making it one of the oldest on the PGA Tour calendar. Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.
