Photos from the U.S. Open

Published

on

GolfWRX is live from the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C. The No. 2 Course, designed by Donald Ross, will play as a par-70 measuring 7,562 yards, more than 300 yards longer than it played for the 2005 U.S. Open.

Pinehurst is most memorable for the late Payne Stewart’s 18-foot putt to save par and win the 1999 U.S. Open Championship over Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. His often imitated fist-pump pose with an arm extended and leg kicked out was turned into a statue and stands on the premises in remembrance.

This year’s field will include all of the world’s top-ranked players as expected, minus Tiger Woods, who has slipped to No. 4 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Justin Rose (No. 9 in the OWGR) will be defending his 2013 U.S. Open victory at Merion Golf Club, but he will have to fend off the worlds best, including Adam Scott (No. 1), Henrik Stenson (No. 2), Bubba Watson (No. 3), Matt Kuchar (No. 5) and Rory McIlroy (No. 6).

The 156-player field will also include a number of sectional qualifiers from around the country, as well as two international qualifying sites, England and Japan.

Check out our photos from this season’s second major championship.

What, a Taylormade prototype that doesn’t have adjustable weights or white paint. It looks almost identical to a Scotty…accept it isn’t anywhere close. Surprised they didn’t introduce a lofted up SLDR putter. lol.

It would be amazing if an American in the lead, or close to, paid homage to Payne with the same outfit. Even Horschel would be awesome too!

Didn’t realize the “Most Interesting Man In The World” used a double overlap grip like Furyk.

Wow is it just me or are there a lot of Cleveland irons? I have always noticed a large number of wedges, but I see a lot of irons with the Cleveland badge.

that “turtleback greens” logo on the headcover is perfect!

I hope Phil takes a page out of Payne Stewart’s approach and takes it easy and plays smart. I know it’s not Phil’s MO, BUT if you want the ultimate prize then maybe you need to change it up a bit. Play smart to win instead of trying to please the crowd with crazy shots.

Please tell Phil that the putter head cover is for him – slow and steady really is going to win this one. Lets hope he does.

Why does Cameron call the putters “Tour Only” when it seems every D1 college player has one in his bag?

Photos from the 2024 Valero Texas Open

Published

GolfWRX is on site this week at the Valero Texas Open.

The event has been around since 1922, making it one of the oldest on the PGA Tour calendar. Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.

GolfWRX has its usual assortment of general galleries, WITBs and special pull-out albums. As always, we’ll continue to update the links below as more photos come in from TPC San Antonio.
