GolfWRX is live this week from the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. The par 72, 7,442-yard layout, which is set to host the 2017 PGA Championship, was originally a George Cobb design, with alterations from Arnold Palmer and redesigns by Tom Fazio. “The Green Mile,” a nickname given to the closing three holes, is considered one of the toughest stretches of finishing holes on the PGA Tour.

This year’s field features Phil Mickelson (No. 9 in the Official World Golf Rankings), who looks to bounce back from a missed cut at the Masters, along with 10 other players ranked in the top 30. Joining Mickelson in the headlines is Rory McIlroy (No. 11), who earned his first PGA Tour victory at the 2010 playing of the Wells Fargo, Justin Rose (No. 10), Webb Simpson (No. 29) and Ernie Els (No. 45).

Derek Ernst returns as the defending champion after winning last year’s event in a playoff against David Lynn to capture his first PGA Tour title. Rickie Fowler, also in the field this week, won his first PGA Tour event here in 2012.
