VPAR: The leaderboard in your pocket

Published

on

VPAR is an interactive scoring app for iPhones that allows average Joes like you and I to keep a live leaderboard on our phones during the weekend rounds we play. The app not only acts as a leaderboard but as a GPS, giving golfers the opportunity to track and store all of their shots, making it simple to compare data from previous rounds.

With this unique pairing of interactive scoring and GPS capabilities, the VPAR Golf App was named as the best sports app at the recent Sports Technology Awards in London.

By simply adding players to your group on the app, you create a live leaderboard giving those who may not be in your foursome the ability to see how they are stacking up with you — giving them an idea of just how much cash they will need to fork over after the round. With its advanced GPS system, the app also allows golfers to see just how their competitors managed to make a par on that tricky par 3.

Managing director for VPAR Jason Stoop says the goal of the app was to allow players to capture the adrenaline and excitement of the game making it a more wholesome experience.

“Players can track their progress, check out the competition and see what’s happening elsewhere on the course as the game unfolds,” he said. “Players are no longer oblivious to the opponents’ scores and what’s needed to beat them, creating your own version of the Masters or the Ryder Cup.”

The app can be purchased on the Apple App Store for an annual fee of $8.95, giving golfers access to more than 30,000 courses worldwide. And if your not an iPhone user don’t worry — the folks at VPAR have promised a version for both Windows and Samsung smart phones in the near future.

I’ve been using the VPAR app, Justin, and it does all those things plus it has GPS! It also looks very cool and slick. I saw this in global golf post a while back which qualifies you for a free subscription if you register http://www.globalgolfpost.com/vpar_kiawahsweepstake/ Seems to still be open so worth a try.

Golf Gamebook is the best I know of by far. Our group has been using it for about a year. So easy to use and setup. You can setup games on the website or from the app. Also easy to share live leaderboards. Live comments as well, so when you can’t make it out you can still heckle your buddies that can’t get off the bogey train!

You mean Android. Samsung is merely a hardware manufacturer.

No he probably means Samsung. When writing apps for android devices it is particular to the devices. That is why some apps will work for some people and not others (using a different phone) even on the same android OS.

Check out scrolf.com for a smartphone leaderboard. It’s not an app and nothing to download. It’s all web-based. It used to be free, but now it’s $1 per round per player (or team in a scramble).

Great……another toy to slow down play ( when the inevitable dork is checking on the course)…. Other than that….pretty cool 🙂

Sooo…. Just apple and windows and Samsung… What about android devices that are not by Samsung…? I am starting to wonder if people think that only Samsung makes android phones.
