House of Carrington is a golf clothier for the more conservative and traditional golfer and at times with a slight edge. Not being the conservative traditionalist, I hadn’t heard of this brand until I saw them at the PGA Merchandise Show in January. They had an entire room set up just off of the main fashion area. I was pleasantly surprised that the upscale line had pieces that nearly everyone could appreciate. The fashions displayed were all seasons for men and a collection of sweaters for women. Everything from smart winter wear to bright resort wear was covered.
The History of House of Carrington
What is the House of Carrington? I was given the following information about the history of the name of the clothing label: House of Carrington was a storied estate overlooking the English Channel at the mouth of the River Dart. Built just after the Great War, it was the center of a privileged world created by wine importer Andrew Carrington. In its expansive salons, paneled libraries and grand ballrooms gathered the crème de la crème of British society, an enchanted circle of the mostly talented, the occasionally brilliant and the sometimes downright odd. All drawn together by the charm, grace and wit of Andrew Carrington — not to mention his seemingly endless supply of the world’s finest wines.
Visit the company’s “Our Philosophy” page on their website and you’ll find interesting gems such as these pieces of advice:
- It’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed.
- Business casual simply means you don’t have to wear a tie with your suit.
- Cell phones are not accessories and should not be visibly worn on your person. It doesn’t matter how much you spent on your leather holster. Blackberries do not receive an exemption because they have more buttons.
