Vega, the premium brand from the Japanese forging house Kyoei where Katsuhiro Miura worked before he left to start his own eponymous company, and makers of some of the sexiest irons this side of heaven have outdone themselves with a limited edition raw black version of their RAFC-02 irons.

Forged from S25c soft carbon steel and then CNC milled for complete precision, the glorious quality of these irons is not hidden behind a glossy chrome or stain finish but rather exposed for full inspection.

The finish has the same texture of fresh cut slate and the edges of the beautiful grinds are knife-like in their precision. The black finish also has the effect of making the larger of the two Vega cavity-back irons seem much smaller when addressing the ball reducing its apparent size to something similar to the superb RAFC-01 irons that we reviewed earlier this year.

As limited editions, they are unlikely to be on the shelf for very long – so if you’re in the market for new top-end cavity back irons and are looking for something different, get in sharpish before they are all snapped up.
