Three Tied After Three at John Deere Classic

“They may have some anxiety,” Perry said. “I’m not. I’m very relaxed. I’m enjoying the ride, I’m enjoying the walk. If it goes my way, great. If it doesn’t, I really don’t worry too much about it. It’s been awesome how I’ve played this year. It’s been so much fun.”  The words belong to Kenny Perry who finds himself tied with Eric Axley (67) and Brad Adamonis (66) atop the leaderboard at the John Deere Classic.  For Mr. Perry, a win would be his third in his last five events.  Redefining the term "Hot" as it applies to one’s golf game, which would mean if you looked up the word Hot in the golfers dictionary there would be a picture of Tiger Woods and Mr. Perry arm in arm.

“I feel comfortable, let me put it that way,” Perry said. “I’m not nervous. I’m very relaxed. I’m staying in the present better than I ever have. I’m not looking ahead, thinking I can win the golf tournament. If I stay in the zone … the wins will come.”   And come, and come, and maybe just happen to come again.  When was the last time someone not named Woods played this well for this length of time?  I can’t remember either, but I will say it is fun to watch.

Mr. Axley won the Valero Texas Open in 2006 for his only win.  Axley said: “I think it’s going to take a lot of birdies tomorrow. … If somebody makes more than me, then I did the best I can do.”  I can’t help but think someone, maybe even more than one someone will make more birdies than Mr. Axley.

Mr. Adamonis has never won on tour, and is the oldest rookie on Tour at age 35.  He also suffers from vertigo which comes on suddenly , " I had vertigo, and it’s just — my form of — I guess everybody has different vertigo, but I have nystagmus along with it. Basically you never know when it’s going to happen. It hits you and I can’t really do anything for two to five minutes. That happened actually at the Travelers where I played well. " If a man can play good golf while others all around him are losing there heads that is a great thing. But if you can do while your world is spinning out of control that’s some kind of golf game.  I’m pulling for the rookie tomorrow, this guy deserves to win a tournament based off perseverance alone.

A shot back of this threesome are Jay Williamson (62) and second round leader Will MacKenzie (70).  Mr. Williamson had eight birdies and an eagle moving from five shots back.  His back nine 29, yes Virginia that says twenty nine,  was frightfully good.  Seeking the first win of his career at age 41, Mr. Williamson wants to improve on his 158th place ranking in the FedEx Cup standings as well.

As for Mr. MacKenzie, he just has to be happy to be within sight of the top spot after such a pedestrian round today. It will take better a better score tomorrow to ride home on a Deere Sunday evening.

Quick aside, what the heck is with the Tour now that Tiger is on the shelf?  It’s either the 40 plus crowd all over the leaderboard or Anthony Kim.  What the heck happened to the rest of these guys?  I think I’ll discuss that soon.  As for Sunday, go go old guy Kenny Perry.  U Da Man. (I will now throw myself out of the building for typing that last idiot remark)
