Boo Weekley shot 65, his seventh straight round in the sixties at Harbour Town, finishing three shots better than anyone after 54 holes.  On the strength of five birdies in a row Mr Weekly went from two behind to two ahead by the end of the first nine Saturday.

Over the final nine he stretched that lead to three in front of Anthony Kim (67), and five ahead of Aaron Baddeley (67), Jason Bohn (67), and Cliff Kresge (68).  Second round leader Lucas Glover played the second nine displaying body language eerily similar to my own when my play leaves me wondering why I ever thought I could play this game.  Mr. Glover recorded a 73 which sent him to another area code and home to thank the creator of the universe that tomorrow is another day.

Mr. Weekley hit fairway after fairway, both with his tee shots and his tobacco juice laden spit.  The tee shots were beautiful, the spitting is disgusting.  I half expected him to grab his crotch and adjust his cup before he hit a shot, but then he’s not playing baseball.  Chewin’ tabaccy aside, good ol’ boy Boo can sure work it around those narrow fairways and tiny greens.

Mr. Kim was the only player to keep Mr Weekley in sight by the end of the day.  Despite hitting his tee shot on the 10th hole into the water on the left side of the fairway (a shot which scared a fish into leaping right out of the water) Mr. Kim chipped in for the best par of the day.  At the tender age of 22 Mr. Kim sure has a lot of game; that he has a few things left to work on was obvious from watching his back nine. His chip from on the green which ran to the very back of the green for example.  Not a knock on him at all,  I’m looking forward to seeing him in the final group tomorrow.  This will be his first time as a professional in that pairing.  While I know he possesses the moxie to fit well into that position, I’m not sure he’s got the nerves necessary to put pressure on Mr. Weekley.

I just don’t see someone who plays this course like it’s his home track will cough up the lead on Sunday.  But that’s been said before much to the chagrin of the leader.  On this "short" "throw back" golf course too many things can happen if your not hitting it with confidence.  Just ask Mr. Glover about those slumped shoulders and hung head of his this afternoon.  The fun part of the game is that no one is immune from one day to the next to the foibles of the golf swing.  It will be entertaining with the good ol’ boy and the cocky kid in the final twosome.

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals who all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, @HuskerFlyer is sharing a Scotty Cameron GOLO with a BGT Stability Tour2 2022 M Edition shaft. While the putter is certainly enviable, the Augusta-inspired shaft is equally noteworthy.

When it comes to practice, it is good to have a purpose. This “Putting Thing” sure does it. We know from personal experience how challenging it can be and how rewarding it is on the practice green. This also provides some competition for your kiddo to see who will unload the dishwasher or do the next chore around the house.
