GolfWRX is live this week from the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., for the season’s first major. The Dinah Shore Tournament Course, a par 72, plays at just over 6,700 yards for the event. The 18th hole is well known for Champions Lake, or “Poppie’s Pond,” which surrounds the green. Traditionally, the winner each year jumps into the pond following the tournament in celebration.

Inbee Park returns this year to the Kraft Nabisco as the defending champion and No. 1-ranked player in the Rolex Rankings. In last year’s tournament, Park won by four strokes, beginning a run of three consecutive major victories.

She will have to hold off a strong field of young stars and past winners in order to capture her fifth career major. Among her competitors includes Suzann Pettersen (No. 2 in the Rolex Rankings), although she enters with lingering health concerns after a WD at the Kia Classic last week, LPGA rookie Lydia Ko (No. 4), past winners of the event Stacy Lewis (No. 3) and Karrie Webb (No. 5) and other household LPGA Tour names including Paula Creamer (No. 8), Lexi Thompson (No. 9) and last week’s winner Anna Nordqvist (No. 10).

Michelle Wie (No. 38) will also be in the field this week, hoping to win her first LPGA major and take the leap into Poppie’s Pond. Her best finish at the event was a T3 in 2006.

Check out our photos from this year’s first major on the LPGA Tour.
